Planter materials - what makes them different?
Not sure about the difference it makes choosing between a Zinc Planter and a Wooden Planter? Here’s a quick guide so you can choose the perfect planter for your needs!
Terracotta
Terracotta is a porous material, so moisture evaporates through the sides of the pot! This helps roots breathe and makes overwatering less likely, but the compost dries out faster. Great for Mediterranean plants, herbs, succulents, and plants that dislike soggy roots.
Plastic
Plastic planters are a practical and versatile choice for many gardens. Lightweight, easy to move and excellent at retaining moisture, they can make plant care a little more forgiving, particularly during warmer weather. A great option for balconies, roof terraces, and larger containers because they add very little extra weight.
Zinc Metal
Zinc is a great all-rounder because it gives you the look of a substantial metal planter without the weight of concrete or stone. This material copes well with changing weather conditions and can last for many years with relatively little maintenance. As with most metal planters, zinc can warm up in strong direct sun, so choosing the right position can help keep root temperatures more stable.
Wood
Wooden planters are a warm and natural choice that sit beautifully within a garden setting. Wood also offers useful insulation and drainage, helping to protect roots from rapid changes in temperature, all whilst maintaining the longevity of your plants!
